“The Patient’s Questions & the Analyst’s Need for Privacy or Secrecy:
Theoretical & Technical Aspects”
LEARNING OBJECTIVES-After attending presentation, participants should:
1) Be familiarized with, and able to apply in their work, the various models of thinking about how to deal with patients’ questions in treatment.
2) Be able to more flexibly think about, and work with the questions their patients bring into treatment, rather than using a “One size fits all” model of dealing with questions.
3) Be able to recognize that at times, countertransferential feelings of needing to protect their privacy (or secrecy) and to maintain an illusion of anonymity, may lead analysts to refuse to answer patients’ questions.
6:00 – 6:30 p.m. Reception, 6:30 – 8:00 p.m. Presentation Free and open to the public.
