“Exploring Transgender Identities: Entering the world of Gender Variance”
Melanie Suchet, Ph.D.
is an associate editor of Psychoanalytic Dialogues and a contributing editor of Studies in Gender and Sexuality. She is Clinical Associate Professor at NYU Postdoctoral Program in Psychotherapy and Psychoanalysis and faculty member at the Stephen A. Mitchell Center for Relational Studies. She is the recipient of APA’s 2014 sexualities and gender identities award and of their 2016 scholarship award.
1)To understand transgender as a continuum in which there are many paths to gender identity.
2)To be knowledgeable about the different approaches to trans treatment, and the controversies they raise.
3)To think about your own gender and how countertransference may influence your work with gender diverse patients.
