This workshop will explore the Jungian concept of Shadow and its relationship to mass shootings and American gun culture. Shadow can be understood as traits that the ego wishes to reject that need to be integrated into psyche. Using the myth of Ares to amplify our understanding, this workshop will explore the symbolism of the gun in American history in culture and deepen our understanding of our personal and collective shadow.
This workshop will explore the significance of this within the consulting room, looking at what a mass shooting is on a symbolic level. In this workshop we will explore how anger, power, rage, and aggression might emerge within the analytic dyad in ways that are often defensive and complex ridden. It is often through the connection with our destructive parts that we can connect to our creative potential, harnessing the positive capacity of the inner gun.
